AML: Epilogue

Kate was happy. A year had passed since her son, Eric’s birth. A year had passed since Logan’s declaration of love. A year of blissful happiness, with her husband. But where was he?

She went looking for him and found him in the nursery, telling silly stories to their son.
“...and then you go charging on your horse, inside the crumbling fortress and rescue the fair maiden, who....”

“Un-huh... hmmm”, Kate cleared her throat.

Logan turned and looked at his pretty wife. She was glowing like the moon he often saw in a starry night. And why wouldn’t she? She was two months pregnant with their second child; she had told him this morn. Just looking at her filled him with pride and love.

Just then Eric started wiggling to go into his mother’s arms. As Kate took him in her arms to cuddle, Logan proudly said, “He’ll be the mightiest warrior ever known.”

“What if he wants to be a monk like his father?” she said with a twinkle in her eyes. She was all mischief today.

Logan sternly said, “Laird forgive me, but no son” he paused and put his hand on her stomach, “or daughter of mine shall ever want to enter an abbey. They’ll see so much love between their parents, that they’ll want that for themselves.” He looked at her with his heart in his eyes; and the sight could still bring tears to her eyes. But she was in a playful mood today. She put Eric, who was asleep by now, in his cradle.

“What if the next one is also a son?”

“Then we try again.”

“What if we don’t have a daughter?”

“Then till we have one, we try again and again... and again” with that he lowered her onto the bed. Kate smiled already planning her next visit to Bergenia. Surely the wise lady had some advice on begetting only sons... at least for some more years. Now wouldn’t she?
